English is one of the most spoken languages in the world. It is also one of the fastest growing, both in terms of numbers and percentage, making it nearly impossible for native speakers to improve their fluency without learning new words. And yet, students are often reluctant to look up these words in a dictionary or glossary. Why? In this context, transcribing is a strategy that allows students to look up new words in a different way. In the transcription process, the new English word is written with phonetic symbols that can be easily pronounced and comprehended by native speakers.1) TRANSCRIPTION DEFINITION: The transcription is a technique used to transcribe ideas from one language to another or from one discourse genre to another keeping the meaning or message of its original version. Its purpose is not only make a more comprehensive analysis of each of the words transcribed but also shows interrelations among them and how they are interdependent on each other for their correct understanding. 2) TRANSCRIPTION STRATEGY: the transcription divides a text into parts and isolates them from each other. The text is recited phonetically by a native speaker so as to reproduce the exact pronunciation of each word.
